I almost know nothing about chinese paintings and i personally
do not have any interest in chinese art. I was really shocked when i first saw
the poster at the entrance of Art museum [TST]. The colours shocked me
first.
Later, i found that he was actually studying in France and
learning western painting most of the time. His paintings theme were mostly:
ladies / scenary "mountain n water" / actors in chinese drama / with a bit
of animals such as birds, owl etc.
If you want to know more "precisely" what his painting style
was, feel free to google him, i would like to just share a few points here of my
feelings towards his works:
- Love his square format as opposed to the
usual long scroll in traditional chinese paintings, he believe that a square
format will not exert any extra directional tension on
audience
- His varies ways of manipulating the
colour of white was impressive. He was not afraid of the solid white at all
and often try to use different kinds of white within a very
concentrated area in his paintings.
- I love his lines, the shape of those ladies,
birds are really pretty, theyare simple and not so sophisticated yet naturally
pretty. This is probably because of me being fond of paintings that are trying
to express the atmosphere rather then the realistic side.
