If you have been reading my facebook update recently, you might misunderstand that i am a big fan of doughnut or Krispy Kreme. I am not. In fact, i am really afraid of anything as sweet as a piece of doughnut. Yet, the doughnut from Krispy Kreme really have some special meanings in my life, those special moments making it so unforgettable.
Here's the story:
First encounter: not knowing where to get it in london
My first encounter with Krispy Kreme was back in London. After arriving in london for a short while, i once went to downtown london with Paul (my taiwanese classmate) for a bit of sight seeing. Suddenly he told me that there's famous doughnut shop around and we started searching. we were somewhere near Piccadilly circus and we simply walked around and see whether there are chance seeing someone eating a piece of doughnut. After a while, nothing close were found. So, we went home. My first encounter with Krispy Kreme was not really an encounter, we missed each other.
Second encounter: first taste of something sweet in london
After settling in London for a while, i went to church with Lor Lor (my highschool classmate) on every sunday. And after church, we often went for dessert lunch (lunching in hagadez). I remembered there's once, me and loretta was shopping in harriods. Suddenly she suggested getting some doughnuts......
I suddenly thought of the doughnut mentioned by paul and guess that's a match. Yo! it was expensive at that time (probably around 10 pounds per dozen) yet it's the first time i felt i brought something that is "luxurious" (i dont really dare to spend so much during my stay in london, buying only necessities - in the beginning). I brought a dozen, had some with lor lor and brought the rest of them back to share with my flatmates. My feeling was really good, felt that i found something warm and sweet in london...
Last encounter: moving out of dorm in london
I can't really remember whether i ate some more doughnuts since the 2nd encounter. Yet i clearly remembered the last time i had krispy kreme in london. That was when we need to move out of our dorm and moving to the new apartment i rent in downtown kingston. Despite me throwing out loads of stuff and the short period of me staying in london (9 months at that time), i still got a lot to pack and move. Luckily we got Sodam (my korean friend) driving us and helping us out with the packing. She is one of the kindest girl i've met in london, sweet, very caring and i just felt like having a sister when she's besides me.
We worked so hard packing and finally done at the dorm. Sodam arrived with her car and a DOZEN (or half a dozen) of fresh doughnuts!! (and with 3 cups of coffee) I still remembered the moment of us sitting in the dorm, with sun shining through the window, 3 of us having a piece of original krispy kreme doughnut with a cup of coffee. The satisfaction i felt is unforgettable.
So i really think that happiness is very simple: great friends and a piece of doughnut.
Krispy Kreme in Hong Kong
Since the opening on kirspy kreme in hong kong, i guess i had it around 5 times, mostly by myself, with all the great memories in my mind.
It's sometimes sad to be missing everyone. As all my friends who shared my kirspy kreme memories are not besides me but very far away, yet they are all the source of energy and happiness that makes me the Heidi i am today.
So, with my thanks to 3 best friends: paul, Lor lor and Sodam! hope to be back to visit you guys someday!
